I have been singing at Aged Care Facilities since 2002. In that
time I have been given the gift of sharing music with some
beautiful souls and finding stories that have given me
validation of what music can do as a therapeutic tool.

I'd like to share the stories in this page, to inspire others to
share their gift of music and to give testimony to what
the soul within can create and how music is indeed a magical experience.

  • In 2003 my first visit to an inner suburban Aged Care Facility
had a dramatic effect on one of the residents, unbeknowst
to me a woman who had never come to any musical
entertainment, was suddenly drawn to my singing leaving
her room after 2 years of being there.
  • Recently, at a local adult day centre, as I was singing
and entertaining, a man in his eighties, who was standing
near the dining room area leaning on his walker, began to say
"that's beautiful". After each song he would make a comment
similar to that. He was also rocking along to the music and
shuffling his feet. He had a slight speech impediment, but was
clear enough. The diversional therapist came by and said "Les
you're enjoying Olgaa's music aren't you?" To which he again
said "it's beautiful". The diversional therapist turned to me and
said that he never sticks around for any of the musical
entertainment. I felt so moved, and he also began to cry during
    one of the songs.
  • A young man who walked in to a concert to pick up his dad
for lunch, said he was going to come back as he wanted his
dad to enjoy the rest of the concert. He said, "I'll come back
later dad you enjoy this beautiful concert, it really is very
enjoyable". To which I replied that I'd only be another 10 mins
and he said that he'd love to stay because it was so beautiful.
Later after the concert, he came over to me and told me how
much he enjoyed it and that I reminded him of his Mum's
singing voice and she used to sing for the Salvos. He wanted
to know when I'd be back so he could be there.
